Abdul-Mateen II steps into the lead role previously set for Sterling K. Brown, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.

While much of the plot remains unknown at this time, the live-action comedy will reportedly portray the collision of the past and present when a young Black man, interning at a living history museum, makes a jarring discovery about his white girlfriend's ancestors. 

Pharrell Williams' highly anticipated musical biopic, Golden, has been permanently shelved and will not be released in any form. The film, directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), featured an all-star cast including Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak, and Jaboukie Young-White.

The movie is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller ‘High and Low,’ which tells the story of an executive at a Yokohama shoe company who is targeted by extortionists after his chauffeur’s son is mistakenly kidnapped and held for ransom. Although Lee has revealed few details about the plot, Washington plays a music mogul with his own label, a reimagined character inspired by Toshiro Mifune’s role as a shoe business executive in the original film. A$AP Rocky has the main role in the film while Ice Spice makes her acting debut with at least one scene with Washington.

Shaquita Smith, best known for her roles in AMC’s Wicked City and BET+’s My Valentine Crush, is set to produce and star in the upcoming indie action-adventure film Voyage of the Forgotten.
