‘Black Barbie: A Documentary’ Earns Two Emmy Nominations

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of Lagueria Davis’ ‘Black Barbie: A Documentary.’ The critically acclaimed film has received two Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Arts and Popular Culture Program” and "Outstanding Writing Team For A Daytime Non-Fiction Program."

The documentary, co-produced by Aaliyah Williams and executive produced by Shondaland, debuted on Netflix in 2024 and took the world by storm, highlighting the important history and genealogy of Mattel’s first Black Barbie and her boundary-pushing representation in the toy industry.

Davis shared her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “This story was never just mine to tell. It belongs to all the Black women who’ve been overlooked, underestimated, and told their stories didn’t matter. It belongs to my aunt, Beulah Mae Mitchell, Kitty Black Perkins, and Stacey McBride-Irby. It belongs to every single one of you who believed in what we were building before the world caught on.”

Congratulations from all of us at TheBlkScript!
