On August 9, Emmy Award winner Nathasha Rothwell sat down with former First Lady Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson, for a live taping of ‘IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’ at the 23rd Annual Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (MVAAFF). During their conversation, the trio discussed her career journey, major milestones, and her growing visibility in the industry following high-profile opportunities like starring in ‘Insecure.’

In keeping with the theme of increased visibility, Rothwell revealed that she is currently developing the long-awaited film ‘Who TF Did I Marry Marry?,’ based on Tareasa Johnson’s (known as Reesa Teesa) viral TikTok story. In February 2024, Johnson posted a 50-part video series detailing a marriage that went terribly wrong. The posts caught the attention of millions, stirred up a social media frenzy, and catapulted Johnson into the spotlight. In response to the TikTok series Rothwell says, “I was blown away that she fearlessly was telling the story and still believed in love after that.” After meeting Johnson via FaceTime and winning the bidding war for the rights, Rothwell is producing the film and will portray Johnson on screen.

She described the project as “in line with the mission of centering marginalized voices, lifting them up, and hopefully helping people at the end of the day.” Rothwell added, “we’re pitching it next week. The Hollywood process is long and arduous, but hopefully we’ll be on set this time next year.”
