Tika Sumpter, Whoopi Goldberg, Ernie Hudson, Bresha Webb And More Star In New Tyler Perry Rom-Com For Amazon MGM Studios
Tika Sumpter, known for her roles in Sonic the Hedgehog and A Madea Christmas, is teaming up with Tyler Perry again for a new romantic comedy for Amazon MGM Studios. In addition to starring, Sumpter co-wrote the script, which explores family dynamics through the lens of two estranged sisters. The film, tentatively titled Unt. Sisters in Italy, is currently in production.
The story follows two sisters who, after their mother’s passing, travel to Italy and discover she owned a bed and breakfast. While deciding what to do with the property, they are guided by a series of posthumous tasks from their mother, aimed at helping them reconnect and embrace life’s possibilities. Sumpter draws from her personal experiences as the youngest sibling in her family to shape the narrative.
The ensemble cast includes Bresha Webb (Run the World), Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Justin Chatwin (Reagan), among others. This project marks Perry’s final film under his four-picture deal with Amazon, which began in 2022.
Tyler Perry directs, with Sumpter and Kemiyondo Coutinho (P-Valley) co-writing the screenplay. The film is produced by Perry's Tyler Perry Studios alongside Sumpter, Angi Bones, Tony Strickland, and Will Areu.
Sumpter, recognized for her portrayal of young Michelle Obama in Southside with You, will also return for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Perry’s upcoming projects include The Six Triple Eight, a WWII drama set for release in December.
