Spike Lee’s Forthcoming Film ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Stars Denzel Washington, A$AP Rocky, And Ice Spice

Academy Award winners Spike Lee and Denzel Washington reunite, joined by rappers A$AP Rocky and Ice Spice, for Lee’s forthcoming film, ‘Highest 2 Lowest’. The movie is a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller ‘High and Low,’ which tells the story of an executive at a Yokohama shoe company who is targeted by extortionists after his chauffeur’s son is mistakenly kidnapped and held for ransom. Although Lee has revealed few details about the plot, Washington plays a music mogul with his own label, a reimagined character inspired by Toshiro Mifune’s role as a shoe business executive in the original film. A$AP Rocky has the main role in the film while Ice Spice makes her acting debut with at least one scene with Washington.

A24 and Apple Original Films have partnered to bring this project to life. The film will have a theatrical release through A24 before streaming on AppleTV+ for global audiences.

‘Highest 2 Lowest’ marks the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington. They partnered on Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and Inside Man (2006). Both Lee and Washington earned Academy Awards for their prolific careers, with Washington winning his first Oscar in 1989 for his role in Glory (1989) and his second Oscar in 2002 for his role in Training Day (2001). Lee won his first Oscar in 2019 for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman (2018). Lee and Washington have repeatedly proven themselves as legends in the Film industry, and fans are excited to see them reunite on this forthcoming project.

A$AP Rocky, celebrated for his versatility as both a trailblazing rapper and accomplished actor, brings his acting talent to the project. In 2015, he played the character Dom in Rick Famuyiwa’s film Dope. In 2016, the rapper graced his fans with a performance as himself in the film Zoolander 2. In the same year, he lent his voice for HBO’s animated series, Animals, as a bodega cat with his A$AP Mob member, A$AP Ferg. In 2018, A$AP Rocky starred in the film Monster, based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Walter Dean Myers.

‘Highest 2 Lowest’ offers a dynamic cast and an interesting baseline for a plot that has fans excited for this project.
