Sev Ohanian and Ryan Coogler will join us at the Armenian Film Festival for a rare sit-down conversation. The duo will dive deep into their partnership at Proximity Media, which they co-founded alongside their partner Zinzi Coogler, discussing the trust, synergy, and shared vision that drive their work.
Proximity Media was founded in 2018 by Sev Ohanian, Ryan Coogler, and Zinzi Coogler, with a mission to create event-driven feature films, television, soundtracks, and podcasts that look to bring audiences closer together through stories involving often-overlooked subject matters. Proximity Media is a multimedia company with projects including JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH, SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY, CREED III, STEPHEN CURRY: UNDERRATED, IRONHEART, and EYES OF WAKANDA.
Sev Ohanian and Ryan Coogler’s friendship began during their time at the University of Southern California. Their first project together, FRUITVALE STATION, launched their careers and grossed $17 million on a budget of less than $1 million.
Sev Ohanian is a veteran screenwriter and producer, whose credits include SEARCHING, RUN, and MISSING. Ryan Coogler’s credits as writer/director include films such as FRUITVALE STATION, CREED, BLACK PANTHER, BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER, and SINNERS. Ryan Coogler’s films have generated nearly $1.5 billion at the domestic box office.
Armenian Film Society will host its 10-year anniversary gala immediately after the conversation at Vertigo in Glendale at 5pm, where Ryan Coogler will induct Sev Ohanian into Armenian Film Society’s newly established Armenian Film Hall of Fame.
