Mara Brock Akil’s New Drama Series ‘Forever’ Starring Lovie Simone And Michael Cooper Jr. Coming To Netflix

Award-winning television producer, screenwriter, and director Mara Brock Akil captures this sentiment in her forthcoming drama series, ‘Forever,’ set to premiere on Netflix. Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. star in the eponymous series, an adaptation of Judy Blume’s 1975 classic novel. The series takes place in Los Angeles in 2018 and follows the story of two Black teenagers, Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.), in a budding romance as they navigate responsibilities, the pressures of being a teenager, and the fleeting emotions of adolescence. With its heartfelt storytelling and contemporary take on a literary classic, ‘Forever’ promises to deliver a beautiful and relatable exploration of young love, self-discovery, and the complexities of growing up.

Mara Brock Akil is the showrunner and executive producer for the series. Co-executive producers include Regina King, Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Reina King, Shana Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway. Hemingway directed four episodes of the series.
Akil is no stranger to grappling with the complexities of love and romance in her projects. She is well-known for her hit TV series and movies Girlfriends (2000- 2008), The Game (2006- 2015), Sparkle (2012), Being Mary Jane (2013- 2019), and Love Is (2018).
