Nicole Ari Parker Joins HBO’s DC Series ‘Lanterns’ As John Stewart’s Mother
Nicole Ari Parker, known for her role in And Just Like That, has secured a recurring role in HBO’s upcoming DC Studios series Lanterns. She will portray Bernadette, the strong-willed mother of John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre.
Lanterns follows Stewart and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two Green Lantern Corps members tasked with protecting the universe using powerful rings. Described as “formidable and tenacious,” Parker’s character is a devoted mother who has fought tirelessly for her family’s future.
The series marks the first live-action project developed under DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. HBO has ordered eight episodes, with Chris Mundy (Ozark, True Detective: Night Country) as showrunner. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro.
While HBO has yet to announce a release date, DC fans can expect more Green Lantern content soon. Nathan Fillion is set to portray Guy Gardner in Gunn’s Superman, arriving in theaters next July.
Parker will also return for Season 3 of And Just Like That, premiering later this year.
