Martin Lawrence And Sony Pictures Announce ‘Blue Streak’ Sequel In Development
Sony Pictures and Martin Lawrence are reportedly gearing up to revive another one of Lawrence’s classic comedies. It has just been announced that a sequel to the 1999 film Blue Streak is in early development. Cole Maliska is currently penning the screenplay, though additional casting or production details have yet to be announced.
Blue Streak, a 1999 box office hit, starred Lawrence as Miles, a clever jewel thief who goes undercover as a detective to retrieve a diamond he hid at a police station. Partnered with an unsuspecting detective played by Luke Wilson, Lawrence’s comedic timing and action chops helped the film earn $120 million worldwide.
Lawrence will produce the sequel through his Run Tel Dat company, along with Robert Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Stacy Lyles, and Toby Jaffe from RDV Films.
Currently, Lawrence is wrapping up a nationwide comedy tour, You All Know What It Is, which runs through March 2025. He also scored a major hit this year with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which kicked off the summer box office with a $56 million domestic opening and has since boosted the Bad Boys franchise’s total to over $1 billion.
