Marlon Wayans Announces Return Of ‘Scary Movie’ Franchise

The Scary Movie franchise is officially returning, with creators Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans reuniting after 18 years to deliver a fresh take on their iconic horror parody. Known for poking fun at films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the new Scary Movie installment is slated to begin filming next year for a theatrical release. Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans, along with Rick Alvarez, will write and produce this anticipated reboot.

Jonathan Glickman, President of Miramax, shared his excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to bring Scary Movie back to the big screen with the Wayans brothers, the masterminds behind its success. Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic genius is perfect for today’s audience.”

Reflecting on their legacy, the Wayans brothers expressed enthusiasm: “Creating Scary Movie over 20 years ago brought audiences together in laughter, and we hope to do it again. Working with Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman and his team feels like a true reunion.”

Scary Movie made a huge impact upon release, grossing over $896 million globally across five films and breaking records for R-rated horror comedy. Paramount Pictures is teaming up with Miramax to distribute the new film worldwide.

In other projects, Marlon Wayans will soon star in HIM, a psychological thriller by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, slated for September 2025. He’s also on his Wild Child Tour across the U.S., bringing his comedy directly to fans.

Marlon Wayans just announced the return of the ‘Scary Movie’ franchise via his Instagram account today. He attributed the decision of it’s return to the demand from the fans. Marlon Wayans had this to say:

”WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to
the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”
