Lee Daniels Extends 20th Television Relationship With First-Look Deal

Lee Daniels is extending his stay at 20th Television with a new multi-year first-look deal. Through his Lee Daniels Entertainment banner, he will develop and produce content across Disney Entertainment Television platforms, including comedy, drama, and limited series.

Since joining 20th Television in 2015, Daniels has played a key role in shaping modern TV, co-creating Empire and Star for Fox, as well as executive producing Our Kind of People and ABC’s The Wonder Years reboot. His ongoing collaboration with the studio has resulted in three consecutive overall deals, signed in 2015, 2018, and 2021. Now, his latest pact reflects the industry's shift toward first-look agreements, offering more flexibility than traditional overall deals.

20th Television President Karey Burke praised Daniels' impact, calling him a “visionary” who has helped redefine television with compelling stories and diverse characters. Daniels expressed gratitude for the continued support from the studio, emphasizing his commitment to bringing fresh perspectives to the screen.

Beyond television, Daniels recently directed and produced The Deliverance, which topped Netflix’s global chart upon its August 30 release. He also executive produces The Ms. Pat Show on BET+, now heading into its fifth season.

Daniels is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and Hansen, Jacobson.
