Juliano Krue Valdi To Play Young Michael In Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Michael’ For Lionsgate

Nine-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi has secured the coveted role of young Michael Jackson in the forthcoming Lionsgate and UIP film, "Michael," directed by Antoine Fuqua.

Valdi will bring to life the early years of Michael Jackson, portraying the legendary artist during his ascent to fame with the Jackson 5. The film will capture the magic of the iconic hits such as "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "I'll Be There."

Graham King, one of the producers, remarked, “When Michael was very young – eleven years old – he astounded the world, possessing the spirit and talent of an adult. He was truly an old soul. He and Juliano have that in common.” King praised Valdi's phenomenal talent and deep inspiration from Michael Jackson, noting that he has translated that inspiration into a captivating performance.

Antoine Fuqua added, “Casting the role of the young Michael was more difficult than casting the adult role. In the end, that was our focus – talent – and we looked far and wide for an actor who could embody Michael’s spirit through his voice, his charisma, and his dance skills. Juliano’s undeniable, raw talent put him at the top of our list.”

Valdi, visibly excited, expressed the significance of the opportunity, saying, “This opportunity is really important to me because Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, and he is very special in my heart. I’ve been dancing to his songs for five years now. He makes me feel really special and makes me feel good about myself. I love the energy of Michael Jackson.”

The cast also includes Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, set to play the King of Pop in the film. Cameras are set to roll next week, with the movie slated for a global day and date theatrical release on April 18, 2025.

The screenplay for "Michael" is penned by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, capturing the complexity of the man and his journey to global fame, highlighting both triumphs and tragedies in his life and creative genius.

Produced by Graham King and the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate, John Branca and John McClain, Lionsgate has domestic distribution rights, while Universal Pictures International will handle overseas distribution (excluding Japan, overseen by Lionsgate).

Valdi is represented by Tanesia Tramell at 117 Artists Management and Paradigm. The film promises to deliver a poignant portrayal of Michael Jackson, exploring the multifaceted facets of his humanity and creative legacy.
