Ayo Edebiri And John Malkovich Star In A24’s New Horror Film ‘Opus’

A24 has dropped the chilling first trailer for Opus, a horror film starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich. The movie premieres at the Sundance Film Festival before its nationwide theatrical release on March 14.

Marking the directorial debut of Mark Anthony Green, Opus follows Ariel (Edebiri), a young writer invited to the secluded estate of Moretti (Malkovich), a reclusive pop icon who vanished 30 years ago. Once there, Ariel becomes entangled in his eerie plans, surrounded by devoted followers and prying journalists.

The trailer teases an unsettling journey as Ariel hears rumors of Moretti’s return and is invited to an “exclusive listening experience” at his remote compound. Accompanied by a colleague (played by Murray Bartlett of The White Lotus), she travels to the ominous location aboard a bus called The Debutante. What begins as a once-in-a-lifetime event quickly turns sinister, featuring bizarre rituals, marionettes, and hidden cameras. Moretti declares he’ll unveil “the greatest album of all time,” but darker revelations await.

The cast also includes Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), Young Mazino (Beef), and Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon). A24 produced the film in collaboration with Makeready and Macro Film Studios, with Charles D. King, The-Dream, and Nile Rodgers serving as executive producers. Rodgers and The-Dream also created original music for the project.

Opus is part of A24’s impressive 2025 lineup, which includes Parthenope (February 7), The Legend of Ochi (February 28), On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (March 7), Death of a Unicorn (March 28), and Marty Supreme (December 25).
