Aaron Pierre Officially Cast As John Stewart In ‘Lanterns’ Eight Episode Series For HBO
Aaron Pierre, known for his role in Rebel Ridge, is set to star as John Stewart in HBO's highly anticipated Lanterns series, based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern. He will play alongside Hal Jordan, a role reportedly close to being confirmed for Kyle Chandler.
Pierre was selected for the part after an extensive search. As previously reported, he and Stephan James were top contenders for the role during the final casting stages.
The series is created by Ozark's Chris Mundy, Watchmen's Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King. Lanterns will follow the story of John Stewart, a new recruit, and Lantern legend Hal Jordan as they team up to solve a dark, Earth-bound mystery in the heartland of America.
The eight-episode series is produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy will serve as showrunner, with Lindelof and King co-writing and executive producing. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and also serve as an executive producer.
In addition to Lanterns, Pierre has been busy with other high-profile projects. He recently led the cast of Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which dominated Netflix for several weeks, and will voice the titular role in Disney’s upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King prequel, directed by Barry Jenkins. Pierre’s other credits include roles in Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, NatGeo's Genius: MLK/X, and the films Foe, Brother, and The Underground Railroad. He is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, Hamilton Hodell, and Sloane Offer Weber Dern.
