Zendaya Officially Joins The Cast Of ‘Shrek 5’ As Shrek’s Daughter

Zendaya is set to bring fresh energy to the beloved Shrek franchise, joining the cast of Shrek 5 as the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). The exciting news was revealed Thursday on the series' official social media.

Eddie Murphy will return as Donkey, adding to the star-studded cast. Fans can catch a sneak peek of Zendaya’s character in the newly released teaser.

Shrek 5, directed by Walt Dohrn (Trolls franchise) and co-directed by Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru), is set to premiere on December 23, 2026. The film is produced by Gina Shay (Trolls franchise) and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri (The Super Mario Bros. Movie). While the plot is still under wraps, this marks the franchise’s return to theaters after Shrek Forever After in 2010.

The Shrek series, inspired by William Steig’s 1990 picture book, began with the Oscar-winning 2001 film. The franchise's first four films grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide, leading to sequels, a Broadway musical, and theme park attractions.

Beyond Shrek 5, Zendaya is busy with Euphoria Season 3 and upcoming roles in Dune: Messiah, The Odyssey, and the next Spider-Man film.
