Watch: ‘The Marvels’: First Trailer For ‘Captain Marvel’ Sequel Is Here; Directed By Nia DaCosta

The Marvels

Marvel Studios recently released the trailer for The Marvels, the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), during Tuesday’s edition of Good Morning America. The upcoming film is set to hit theaters on November 10th and sees Brie Larson reprising her role as Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers.

Joining her in the film are Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who was introduced in the Disney+ series WandaVision, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel. The trailer shows the trio coming together again for the first time as a team under the direction of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

Larson spoke with Good Morning America about reprising the role of Captain Marvel, saying that the new film would explore “some of the complexities of the character” and delve into the fact that “there are parts that are not so great about her.” The first film focused on the origin story of Captain Marvel, but this one aims to dig deeper and explore the complexities of the character, highlighting that even heroes don’t always make the right decisions.

Nia DaCosta directs The Marvels, which is the sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, and the film will directly follow the events of the post-credits scene from the Ms. Marvel series.

Before the trailer’s release, Marvel Studios shared an audio teaser under the banner: “BREAKING: newly obtained audio from space.” Various voices can be heard, including Monica Rambeau’s, who says, “Hello?” and Nick Fury’s, who asks, “Where is Captain Rambeau?”

Larson also discussed her two upcoming passion projects for Disney+: the short film Remembering, which explores the power of imagination, and the docu-series Growing Up, which follows young adults aged between 18 to 22 years old and their coming-of-age experiences. Larson shared that she had deep feelings of shame and fear that she was unlovable during that age range, which inspired her to focus on this demographic.

“I am so lucky that I get to play pretend with my job,” Larson said. “The fact that I’m an actor came from me being a small child and saying it to my mom. I feel like sitting here on this couch talking about these projects is honoring this inner child inside of me. I have a very vivid interior world, and it’s something that I’ve cultivated and is very special to me.”

In summary, The Marvels is set to be a highly-anticipated addition to the MCU, and fans are excited to see Larson, Parris, and Vellani come together as a team under the direction of Nick Fury.
