Regina King Directs The First Episode Of ‘Forever,’ Coming To Netflix May 8

Mara Brock Akil’s new drama series ‘Forever’ finally has an official release date! The highly anticipated series is set to premiere May 8 on Netflix and is part of Akil’s overall Netflix deal. Academy Award winner Regina King has reportedly directed the first episode, and she is also credited as one of the executive producers for the show. The series, starring Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr., is an eponymous contemporary adaptation and reimagining of Judy Blume’s classic 1975 novel about a budding romance between two teens. 

Additional star features in the show include Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Lawrence Winans III, Wood Harris, Karen Pittman, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Niles Fitch, Paigion Walker, and E’myri Crutchfield.

In 2020, King made her feature film directorial debut with ‘One Night In Miami…’ which earned her a 2021 Golden Globe nomination for Best Director. She has also directed episodes of ‘Scandal,’ ‘This Is Us,’ ‘Greenleaf,’ and ‘The Good Doctor.’ Fans are excited to see the pilot episode for ‘Forever,’ led by the award-winning and culturally impactful actress and director.
