Noma Dumezweni, Gabby Beans & Sarunas J. Jackson Join Apple TV+ Series ‘Presumed Innocent’

Apple TV+ has announced that Noma Dumezweni, Gabby Beans, and Sarunas J. Jackson have joined the cast of the upcoming limited series Presumed Innocent. The show is based on the novel by Scott Turow and will explore obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love.

Presumed Innocent follows the story of a murder that shakes up the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The book was originally published in 1987 and was adapted into a feature film in 1990 starring Harrison Ford.

The new series, reimagined by David E. Kelley, will feature Dumezweni as ‘Judge Lyttle,’ a seasoned legal mind who oversees one of the most high-profile trials in Chicago’s recent history. Meanwhile, Beans will play ‘Mya,’ a gifted lawyer and recent graduate of Yale Law School. Jackson will portray ‘Clifton,’ an artist and bartender who distracts Barbara Sabich, played by Ruth Negga, during one of the most difficult times of her life – her husband’s murder trial.

The cast of Presumed Innocent also includes Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Lily Rabe, Nana Mensah, Matthew Alan, and Kingston Rumi Southwick.

Kelley serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series, which is being produced by Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers are J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot, David E. Kelley, Matthew Tinker, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Thomason, and Sharr White. Turow and Miki Johnson are co-executive producers. Anne Sewitsky will direct and executive produce the first two episodes, with Greg Yaitanes also directing.

Dumezweni is represented by Principal Entertainment and Conway van Gelder Grant, Beans by TalentWorks and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Jackson by A3 Artists Agency, Canopy Media Partners, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, et al.

Presumed Innocent promises to be a thrilling series that explores the darkest corners of the human psyche. With a star-studded cast and talented creative team, it’s sure to be one of the most anticipated series of the year.
