New Comedy In The Works Called ‘Overstepping’ From Lauren Ashley Smith & Damon Wayans Jr. At CBS

Damon Wayans Jr. is expanding his TV presence, adding another comedy to his lineup at CBS. His latest project, Overstepping, is a multi-cam comedy produced under his Two Shakes Entertainment banner with CBS Studios. Wayans Jr. enlisted Lauren Ashley Smith, known for her work as head writer on A Black Lady Sketch Show, to write and executive produce the new series.

Overstepping centers on an unconventional duo—a fifty-something free spirit moves in with her estranged, twenty-something stepdaughter following a financial setback. As they navigate their generational differences, the two women attempt to rebuild their relationship, relying on each other as they tackle life and love together.

Smith’s strong background in comedy includes roles as head writer for BET’s The Rundown with Robin Thede and senior producer for Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Recently, she secured a deal to script a film about majorettes, produced by Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders, and musician H.E.R., through 20th Century Studios.

Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment, founded with Kameron Tarlow, has several projects in development, including CBS’s game show Raid The Cage and the firefighter drama Ten House. With a recently renewed deal with CBS Studios through 2026, Wayans Jr. is building a steady stream of diverse and engaging content for the network.
