J. Alphonse Nicholson Added To ‘Lanterns’ Series Cast For HBO

J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) has landed a recurring role in HBO’s upcoming DC drama Lanterns. He joins leads Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, along with series regular Kelly MacDonald.

The series, from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, follows Green Lanterns John Stewart (Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Chandler) as they investigate a mysterious murder in the American heartland. Nicholson is set to portray a younger version of John Senior.

Also starring Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, and Jason Ritter, Lanterns is an eight-episode series produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy serves as showrunner, with Lindelof and King as executive producers. James Hawes is directing the first two episodes.

Nicholson is best known for his role as Lil’ Murda on Starz’s P-Valley. His credits also include Clipped, White Men Can’t Jump, Just Mercy, They Cloned Tyrone, and Madam CJ Walker. He was also part of the Tony-winning Broadway production A Soldier’s Play.
