Halle Berry Stars Opposite Chris Hemsworth In Amazon MGM Studios Thriller ‘Crime 101’

Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is in talks to join the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming adaptation of Don Winslow’s Crime 101, directed by Bart Layton. Berry would star alongside Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan. The film, set for a theatrical release next year, marks Layton's next project following American Animals.

Based on Winslow’s short story, Crime 101 has been described as reminiscent of Heat, centering on high-level jewel thefts along the Pacific Coast, with suspicions tied to Colombian cartels. However, Detective Lou Lubesnick believes otherwise, focusing on a single thief aiming for a final big score. Production is slated to begin this month.

Layton co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Straughan, and the film's producers include Shane Salerno of Story Factory, Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan of Working Title, and Layton along with Dimitri Doganis and Derrin Schlesinger of RAW. Hemsworth, also a producer on the project, is collaborating with his production partner Ben Grayson. Actor Pedro Pascal was previously attached but exited due to scheduling conflicts.

Halle Berry's career continues to shine with notable performances, including her Oscar-winning role in Monster’s Ball. She has earned Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Introducing Dorothy Dandridge and received a Golden Globe nomination for Frankie and Alice. Her extensive filmography includes hits like X-Men, John Wick: Chapter 3, and The Call. Recently, she starred in Netflix’s The Union and produced the Lionsgate thriller Never Let Go. Berry, through her production company HalleHolly, is also working on Maude Vs. Maude and The Process.

Berry is represented by WME, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and Range Media Partners.
