Eiza González And Aaron Paul To Star In Flying Lotus’s Sci-Fi Feature ‘Ash’

L to R: Eiza Gonzalez, Aaron Paul, Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus, the Grammy-winning producer and filmmaker, is gearing up for his second feature film, Ash, a sci-fi thriller set to start production in May in New Zealand. The movie will star Eiza González, who previously starred in Baby Driver and Aaron Paul, who is best known for his role in Breaking Bad and recently starred in the sci-fi film Dual, which premiered at Sundance.

Ash was written by Jonni Remmler and follows the story of González's character, a woman who wakes up on a distant planet to find her crew viciously killed. When Paul's character comes to rescue her, she has to decide if she can trust him. The movie will be produced by XYZ Films and GFC Films, with Neill Blomkamp and Echo Lake on board as executive producers.

In addition to directing, Flying Lotus will also compose the original score for the movie. The filmmaker made his feature directorial debut with Kuso, which premiered at Sundance in 2017. Last year, he executive-produced and scored Netflix anime series Yasuke, starring LaKeith Stanfield, and he most recently wrote, directed and scored a segment for the latest installment of the anthology franchise V/H/S/99.

González, who is represented by CAA, Linden Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen, will also star in Benioff and Weiss series Three Body Problem for Netflix and is currently filming Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare from Guy Ritchie and Jerry Bruckheimer. Meanwhile, Paul is represented by UTA.

Ash is a collaboration between XYZ and GFC, who previously worked together on New Zealand Oscar entry The Dead Lands and 6 Days, starring Jamie Bell, Mark Strong, and Abbie Cornish. Speaking about the project, Flying Lotus said, “We are building something fresh and unique with Ash and having Eiza and Aaron in this world just makes it flames. They are absolute magic makers, brave, and equally inspiring. All that to say… We ‘bout to kill this shit.”
