Black Cake Cancelled At Hulu After Just One Season

Hulu has officially canceled Black Cake nearly a year after it premiered in November 2023. The show, based on Charmaine Wilkerson’s 2022 novel, wrapped up its first and final season with the episode that aired on December 6, 2023.

Black Cake follows siblings Benny and Byron Bennett, played by Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren and Ashley Thomas (Them). The siblings uncover their late mother’s hidden past when they receive a flash drive containing stories about her journey from the Caribbean to America. These revelations, narrated by Chipo Chung (Into the Badlands), challenge everything they thought they knew about their family history.

The series also starred Mia Isaac (The Perfect Couple), Lashay Anderson (Rebel Cheer Squad), Faith Alabi (Industry), Ahmed Elhaj (Grantchester), and veteran actor Glynn Turman.

This is Hulu’s second major cancellation of the day, as the platform also announced the end of the dramedy UnPrisoned, starring Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo, after two seasons.
