Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor Joins Apple TV+'s Limited Drama 'Lucky'
Academy Award, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is set to star in Lucky, a new limited series from Apple TV+. The show, headlined and executive produced by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), is adapted from Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel and Reese’s Book Club pick of the same name.
Lucky follows Taylor-Joy as the titular character, a young woman who left behind a life of crime only to confront her dark past one last time in a high-stakes bid for freedom. The series is produced by Hello Sunshine and Tropper Ink, with Jonathan Tropper (Warrior, Banshee) as creator and co-showrunner alongside Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda). Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce through Hello Sunshine, while Taylor-Joy also serves as an EP under her production banner, Ladykiller. Jonathan Van Tulleken (The Offenders) will direct several episodes, including the pilot.
In Lucky, Ellis-Taylor reunites with Timothy Olyphant, with whom she recently starred in Justified: City Primeval. Her television accolades include Emmy nominations for Ava Duvernay’s When They See Us and HBO’s Lovecraft Country. She also earned an NAACP Award nomination for The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel and won a Gracie Award for The Book of Negroes.
