'The Game' Revival Series Among 4 Paramount+ Series That Have Been Canceled And Will Be Removed From Streamer
According to Shadow and Act, Paramount+ has cancelled some of your favorite shows.
Queen of the Universe, The Game, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and Star Trek: Prodigy have been cancelled by the streamer, according to Variety. Not only that, but the four series will be removed from Paramount+ in the next few days, so binge-watch them while you can.
Star Trek: Prodigy in particular is in a lurch, since it was renewed for a second season in 2021, with the animators currently in post-production on the series. After the second season is completed, CBS Studios will be able to shop the series, as well as The Game, which has had many lives in its tenure by airing on The CW and BET before Paramount+, to other networks. Paramount Television Studios will able to shop Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies elsewhere as well. Queen of the Universe, a spinoff of RuPaul’s Drag Race’s drag empire, will be taken off Paramount+ June 30. It recently aired its second season on the streamer.
A Paramount+ spokesperson told Variety that the four shows “have completed their runs…and will not be returning to the service.”
“We want to extend our thanks to our tremendously talented cast and crew and our producing partners for their passionate work and dedication on these programs, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors,” said the spokesperson. A source also told Variety that that cancellations and removals were based on data, but no specific data was provided.
The cancellations might upset fans of the various series, but for Paramount+ it’s business; Variety reports that the cancellations comes ahead of the June 27 launch of Paramount+ with Showtime, which brings popular Showtime series to the streamer.
