‘Snowfall’ Spinoff In Early Development At FX; Gail Bean Rumored To Star

Gail Bean

According to sources from Deadline, a spinoff of the popular drama series Snowfall is currently in its early stages of development at FX. Although no official statement has been made, the potential offshoot is said to feature Gail Bean reprising her role as Wanda, a beloved character from the original show.

Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the spinoff will continue the story of South Central as it transitions from the crack era to the gangster rap business. It will heavily feature areas infested by gangs led by the Bloods and Crips, with Wanda serving as a link between the original show and the spinoff. The show is also expected to introduce new main characters.

Malcolm Spellman will serve as the executive producer and writer of the pilot, alongside other returning executive producers such as Dave Andron, Trevor Engelson, Michael London, and Tommy Schlamme, with Julie DeJoie also serving as an executive. Co-creators of the original show, John Singleton (posthumously) and Eric Amadio, as well as producer Evan Silverberg, are also expected to receive credit.

Snowfall, which starred Damson Idris as young drug kingpin Franklin Saint during the height of the crack epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles, is set to complete its six-season run on April 19. The show's final season has seen civil war threaten to destroy the Saint family, with Franklin desperate to save everything he loves and has built. Meanwhile, his aunt Louie has taken over his role as Teddy's sole buyer, creating a competing empire in the process.

Snowfall was John Singleton's final project before his death in 2019, which he co-created with Andron and Amadio. The show is executive produced by Singleton, Andron, Schlamme, Amadio, London, Engelson, Leonard Chang, Walter Mosley, and Julie DeJoie. Idris also serves as a producer, and the show is produced by FX Productions.

As of now, it remains unclear which characters from the original series, if any, will appear in the spinoff. Fans of the show will have to wait for more updates as the spinoff continues its development.
