Netflix has announced that Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali will be lending his voice to the upcoming natural history series, ‘Chimp Empire.’ The four-part series, directed by James Reed, explores the world of the largest chimpanzee society ever discovered in Uganda's Ngogo Forest.

Reed, who won an Oscar for co-directing My Octopus Teacher, has spent the last 25 years observing and living alongside the tribe. During this time, he has witnessed the chimps building a complex social structure, forming alliances, caring for one another, and fighting for power.

The series captures the intimate moments of the tribe's history, from the growth of babies to the rise and fall of leaders. Reed and his team embedded a camera crew to get an up-close look at the chimps of Ngogo during some of their most tumultuous battles and dramatic changes.

Chimp Empire is produced by Keo Films, the production company behind Rise of the Warrior Apes and Lucy The Human Chimp, and Reed's Underdog Films. Keo Films' Matt Cole will executive produce alongside Reed, with Callum Webster serving as series producer.

The series will premiere on Netflix on April 19, just ahead of Earth Day. This is a must-watch for nature lovers, especially those interested in chimpanzee behavior and social structures. With Ali's powerful voice as the narrator, this series is sure to be a hit.
