Lionsgate Strikes Worldwide Deal For Thriller, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’; The Weeknd’s Feature Debut
Lionsgate has secured global theatrical distribution rights for Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller marking The Weeknd’s (Abel Tesfaye) feature-starring debut. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film stars The Weeknd alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Notably, Hurry Up Tomorrow aligns with The Weeknd’s upcoming album of the same title, set to be a powerful soundtrack crafted by The Weeknd and Daniel Lopatin.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson praised The Weeknd’s artistry: “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium... his musical universe expands onto the big screen with Hurry Up Tomorrow, bringing audiences a fresh cinematic experience.”
The project originated from an idea by The Weeknd, who collaborated closely with Shults on the screenplay. Hurry Up Tomorrow completes a trilogy following his previous albums, After Hours and Dawn FM, promising fans a deeply immersive film and music experience.
Produced by The Weeknd’s Manic Phase and Reza Fahim, the film also includes executive producers Jenna Ortega, Shults, Michael Rapino, and Ryan Kroft, among others. The crafts team boasts Chayse Irvin as director of photography, Elliott Hostetter as production designer, and Erin Benach and Hannah Jacobs as costume designers.
