Kevin Hart And Robin Roberts Join Forces For New Orleans Documentary ‘A King Like Me’

Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat and Robin Roberts’ Rock’n Robin Productions have partnered to executive produce A King Like Me, a documentary that shines a light on the Zulu Krewe, a historic Black cultural organization in New Orleans. This collaboration was announced by Highly Flammable Productions following the film’s premiere at the 35th Annual New Orleans Film Festival, where it served as the opening night feature.

The documentary focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic deeply affected the Zulu Krewe, which lost 16 members after the 2020 Mardi Gras celebration. It explores how the pandemic exposed racial health disparities in the U.S., highlighting the broader issue of health inequities that disproportionately impact Black communities.

Producer Fisher Stevens expressed his excitement for the partnership, noting that Hartbeat and Rock’n Robin’s involvement will help spotlight Black culture’s significance during Mardi Gras and share the Zulu Krewe’s story of resilience and unity.

He emphasized the importance of having the support of Hart and Roberts in bringing these nuanced stories to life.

WME is handling the film’s sales, and both Hartbeat and Rock’n Robin are represented by WME, alongside other key players involved in the production. A King Like Me promises to offer a timely, heartfelt look at the strength and significance of Black cultural institutions in the face of adversity.
