Ice Cube And Jesse Collins Entertainment Partner For Big3 Docuseries
Ice Cube is teaming up with Jesse Collins Entertainment to create a brand new sports docuseries that will follow the development of the Big3 sports league. As the founder of the league, Ice Cube will star in and produce the series with Jesse Collins Entertainment.
The upcoming docuseries will offer viewers an inside look at the Big3 sports league, which has quickly become one of the fastest-growing new leagues in the United States. Ice Cube's journey to defy the NBA and make the Big3 one of the biggest sports leagues in the world will be a major focus of the show.
The docuseries will be dual-narrative, following Ice Cube as he builds the basketball league from the ground up while also tracking the journey of one of the Big3 teams as they compete to become national champions. The series has been described as a combination of Welcome to Wrexham and Cheer, but with a basketball twist.
The docuseries will also cover the Big3's widely publicized $1.2 billion lawsuit against Qatari investors. Viewers will get an inside look at the challenges that Ice Cube and his team have faced while developing and growing the league.
Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz announced the launch of the Big3 in January 2017. The 3-on-3, half-court basketball league was designed to feature some of the best players in the game and to provide a player-centric league focused on entertainment and innovation. Among the many innovations, the league introduced the 4-point shot, which features three 4-point circles beyond the 3-point line.
The Big3 has become the first professional sports league certified by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a Black-owned and operated business. It is also the first league to have female coaches within a male sport. The league has empowered diverse executives and entrepreneurs to hold top roles at its sports teams and provides revenue share with players, making it one of the few leagues to do so.
The Big3 has attracted some of the biggest names in basketball, with legends such as Dr. J, ‘The Ice Man’ George Gervin, Gary Payton, Allen Iverson, Lisa Leslie, Rick Barry, Stephen Jackson, and more competing as coaches and players. The league even brought in Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, who is now the Commissioner of the Big3.
Jesse Collins Entertainment will executive produce the docuseries along with Cube Vision's Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz. The company has a multi-year overall agreement with ViacomCBS Cable Networks on the TV side and a first-look agreement with Viacom's film entities such as Paramount Players.
