Gina Rodriguez Developing Series Adaptation Of Sonoro Podcast ‘Princess Of South Beach’ For Netflix

Gina Rodriguez

Actress and producer Gina Rodriguez is bringing the popular podcast series "Princess of South Beach" to Netflix. The streaming giant has optioned the podcast and Rodriguez will produce the series through her I Can & I Will Productions banner along with Sonoro, iHeart's My Cultura Network, and Jasmine Romero. The podcast, which is iHeart’s My Cultura Network’s top-performing title, follows twin sisters separated at birth and raised in dramatically different ways. The bilingual series will pay homage to beloved telenovela tropes and add modern twists. Season 2, which has been renewed for the podcast, is set to premiere this fall in both English and Spanish and will feature some of the biggest stars from the first season, including Raul Esparza, Gina Torres, Danny Pino, and Sheryl Rubio.

The story revolves around Maria del Carmen and Gloria, who were separated at birth and raised in completely different environments, with one growing up in a convent and the other in a life of luxury. When a freak accident kills Gloria, Maria del Carmen takes on her sister's identity and uncovers secrets about their wealthy family. In the upcoming season, Raul and Estrella set out on a road trip to find Estrella's long-lost high school sweetheart, Gabby, and in doing so, they discover the dark past of Esteban Calderon.

Rodriguez will serve as the executive producer for the upcoming series but is not attached to star in the show. The second season of the podcast will be released globally and will be available in both English and Spanish. Camila Victoriano and Joshua Weinstein will also serve as executive producers for the season on behalf of Sonoro, with Gisselle Bances producing for iHeart's My Cultura Network. Joanna Hausmann and Jasmine Romero, who worked on the first season, will be back as writers and directors for season 2. "Princess of South Beach" is an exciting project for Netflix, and with Rodriguez at the helm, the show is sure to be a hit.
