Eddie Murphy To Star As Funk Icon George Clinton In Amazon MGM Biopic Directed By Bill Condon
Eddie Murphy is set to portray funk legend George Clinton in Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming biopic, directed by Bill Condon. This reunion between Murphy and Condon follows their successful collaboration on Dreamgirls, where Murphy’s performance earned him an Oscar nomination.
The script is written by Virgil Williams, who adapted it from Max Werner’s initial draft. Longtime George Clinton fan Catherine Davis sparked the project, bringing the idea to Murphy. The film's production includes Murphy's own Eddie Murphy Productions, alongside John Davis of Davis Entertainment, with Catherine Davis and Greg Yolen also producing. Clinton himself, along with Archie Ivy and Jeff Jampol, will serve as executive producers.
The biopic draws from Clinton's memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?, and will trace his journey to founding Parliament-Funkadelic. Known for their experimental sound and iconic, sci-fi-inspired shows, Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic reshaped music and cultural norms through their wild creativity and influence.
Murphy’s next project with Amazon MGM, The Pickup, stars Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson. Meanwhile, Condon is finishing Kiss of the Spider Woman, a musical adaptation starring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna.
