Don Cheadle’s This Radicle Act & Sony Pictures Television Developing Lamar Giles YA Book ‘The Getaway’ For TV

L to R: Don Cheadle, Lamar Giles

Sony Pictures Television and This Radicle Act, the production banner of Don Cheadle, are developing a TV adaptation of the popular YA novel ‘The Getaway’ by Lamar Giles. The book is a near-future horror story that explores what would happen if the world were to fall into chaos, while you and your family were stuck working at one of the world’s most famous resorts. The resort has been secretly selling shares in an end-of-the-world oasis to the world's richest and most powerful people without their employees' knowledge. However, a group of teens is about to uncover the truth and try to save themselves.

Don Cheadle and his producing partner Karyn Smith-Forge will executive produce the show, while Giles will produce it. The Radicle Act has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television, and their focus is on developing comedy and drama series for cable and streaming.

Apart from The Getaway, The Radicle Act has several other projects in the works. One such project is Quitman 10+2, which will be produced by Adam and Naomi Scott through Gettin’ Rad Productions. They Can’t Kill Us All, another project by the banner, will be produced by Brad Weston through Makeready, and Wes Lowery, who wrote the novel of the same name. Hannah Rose May wrote the graphic novel Rogues’ Gallery, which The Radicle Act is adapting for TV. Monster is another show that The Radicle Act is developing, which will be produced by Akela Cooper, with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Matthew A. Cherry attached to direct.

Lamar Giles is the author of several other acclaimed novels, including The Last Last-Day-of-Summer, Not So Pure and Simple, SPIN, and Fake ID. Giles has also written for Star Wars, DC Comics, and National Geographic.

The TV adaptation of The Getaway is an exciting project for Sony Pictures Television and The Radicle Act. We can't wait to see what they bring to the screen, as well as their other projects in the works.
