Caleb McLaughlin To Star In Scripted Podcast ‘Sacrilege: Curse Of The Mbirwi’ Featuring Kevin Carroll, Christina Elmore, Jessica Mikayla And More For Audible & QCODE
As Stranger Things gears up for its final season, star Caleb McLaughlin is stepping into the world of scripted audio drama with Sacrilege: Curse of the Mbirwi. The supernatural podcast, produced by QCODE for Audible, premieres May 29.
Set in Zimbabwe, the story follows the Wallace family from Detroit as they embark on what was meant to be a healing safari trip. But things take a dark turn when 17-year-old Dashon Wallace (played by McLaughlin) unknowingly disturbs a sacred burial site, summoning the Mbirwi — an ancient shape-shifting spirit that hunts down intruders. As the family fights to survive, buried secrets and emotional scars rise to the surface.
Created by Nyasha Hatendi (Swan Song, Alex Rider), the thriller blends cultural folklore with modern themes of identity, grief, and belonging. The cast also includes Kevin Carroll, Christina Elmore, Jessica Mikayla, Tongayi Chirisa, Charmaine Bingwa, and others, with sound design available in Dolby Atmos for an immersive experience.
“This is more than just a horror story,” McLaughlin shared. “It’s a powerful journey about family, identity, and the fears we carry.” Hatendi added, “It’s a coming-of-age tale rooted in Zimbabwean folklore, exploring what it means to connect with one’s heritage.”
Sacrilege joins Audible’s growing roster of premium audio dramas, including 1984, The Big Fix, and The Safe Man.
