CIA Director Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett) brings her fierceness back to the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise for the latest installment—The Final Reckoning. Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Angela Bassett is set to play the iconic character in the film, which is expected to be released in theaters by Paramount Pictures and Skydance on May 23, 2025. While the full plot of the film has not yet been disclosed, fans can expect to be submerged in an action-packed, breathtaking story that tracks the final mission of the Impossible Mission Force’s (IMF) highly skilled field agent, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise).

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ is co-written by Christopher McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, with McQuarrie also serving as director. Producers include Tom Cruise, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg, with Don Granger and Chris Brock serving as executive producers. This film marks the eighth installment in the franchise and serves as the sequel to ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ (2023). Fans anticipate the same high-stakes, explosive action that has become a hallmark of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series. The movie, originally named ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ up until October 2023, was scheduled to debut this year; however, production was delayed in part due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Now, the film will premiere in 2025 and fans and critics alike are on the edge of their seats.

The film features new and returning actors. Tom Cruise stars alongside Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Esai Morales, Mariela Garriga, Simon Pegg, Greg Tarzan Davis, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt.
